Biliana has a Master’s in Urbanism. She graduated from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in 2012. The main focus of her work both during her studies and in her career has been the topic of sustainable cities and urban mobility in particular.
Over the years she has worked on a number of local and international projects on sustainable development (CIVITAS ‘Shaping the mobility of tomorrow’), smart cities (The Sharing Cities project – urban mobility) and sustainable mobility (‘FLOW’ – Furthering Less Congestion by Creating Opportunities For More Walking and Cycling). She has also participated in a number of international conferences and public debates on the future of our cities and the future of planning.
In 2012 Biliana became part of the multidisciplinary team of the largest architectural studio in Bulgaria – Ivo Petrov Architects, where she works on large investment projects and related feasibility and planning activities. In addition, she has worked on various strategic municipal projects such as the Integrated urban regeneration plans of Burgas and Pazardzhik and the Integrated urban transport plan of Burgas, general spatial plans, municipal development plans (with the Lesichovo municipality) and a number of others. Biliana has specialized in the potential for the implementation of smart city solutions for the promotion of pedestrian and bicycle traffic and the optimization of parking in urban environments.
Biliana’s interests and work in the field of modern cities development lead her to understand that for a city to develop sustainably, it is essential to involve all stakeholders in the planning, management and development processes. Thus, she recognized the potentials for adapting the mediation procedure to urban cases. In 2021, she became a certified mediator under the Mediation Act in Bulgaria. Her willingness to promote the application of mediation in urban development projects makes her one of the creators of KOMPONENTA and an integral part of the team since its beginning.
