Sonia Grigorova

Conceptualization, Strategies and Urban Mediation
Sonia is one of the creators of KOMPONENTA and has been an integral part of the team since its foundation. The main goal and focus of her work is the promotion of urban mediation in the process of urban planning and development. Her extensive experience in investment projects and spatial planning determines her key involvement in services that concern Concepts and Implementation, Strategies and Urban Mediation.

Sonia graduated with a Master’s degree in Urbanism with a specialization in Urban Agriculture in Italy (Polytechnic University of Turin) in 2016. She also followed a semester in the Technical University of Wien. As a student Sonia was part of a team which won second place at an international competition for the revitalization through public-private partnerships of the Tohoku region in Japan (which was affected by the 2011 earthquake). During her undergraduate and graduate education in Urban Planning, she was awarded numerous academic prizes. She has been a guest lecturer in several courses of the Urbanism education program at the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Sofia, Bulgaria. 

In 2019, she graduated from the two-level program in Economic Development of the Centre for Economic Development and Competitiveness at St. Kliment Ohridski University, Sofia, which is affiliated with the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard Business School. 

In 2021 Sonia became a certified mediator under the Mediation Act in Bulgaria. 

Her professional experience includes a variety of projects in the areas of strategic and urban planning. As part of the team of the National Centre for Territorial Development, she has been involved in the development of the National Housing Strategy of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Targeted Investment Programme to support the development of lagging regions in Bulgaria, numerous integrated urban regeneration and development plans and municipal master plans.

Since 2017 she has been part of the multidisciplinary team of the largest architectural studio in Bulgaria – Ivo Petrov Architects, where she works on large-scale investment projects and related feasibility and spatial planning activities. She also works on urban research and analysis related to the company’s activities.
